VENTING OUT EMOTIONS -HOW YOU CAN DO IT

Stressful day at work?Get yelled at by your boss?Fought with your best friend ?Got a bad grade? Or did everything just seem to go wrong today ?

You are most definitely experiencing a turmoil of emotions –

Anger ,frustration, disappointment, guilt or you’re just feeling blue.

Being an introvert I would just keep bottling up my emotions until it would all burst out like a volcano .

AND THAT IS UNHEALTHY!(Learnt that the hard way )

So if you find it difficult to vent out what you are feeling here are two AMAZING techniques that absolutely changed the way I handle emotions.

WRITING

Writing blogs, journaling thoughts ,writing a diary ,or just simply writing a brain dump is a great way to start .

You could try a hand at  writing poems, essays or even haiku’s no matter how terrible you think they will turn out. But make writing an integral part of your day .

ART

Art therapy or venting through art is something I recently  learnt.

I love drawing mandalas , zentangles or just doodling. It helps me relax and get perspective .

You could try a hand at doing the same and who knows you might discover a hidden talent ?

Here are a few I  made this month

WHEN LIFE PULLS YOU DOWN

GETTING BACK UP IS NOT EASY !

Jumping back onto your feet after a rough patch is overrated.

What do you do when life pulls you down, tramples on you and throws you into a sandstorm ,and then expect you to get up and muster the energy to tell everyone that you are okay ?

1.WORK

I throw myself into work .I fuel myself with all the anger ,sadness and regrets and just work. But this is quite painful, trust me I know

2.INVOLVE

Get involved in  an art class,or a music class.Join a community service.Find a new hobby and involve yourself into it.Enroll yourself into a course .

This should be something that you can come to whenever you are having a bad day.

3.CRY

Crying is scientifically the best way to get rid of stress and just unload all your problems.Cry it out .Then treat yourself to a tub of ice cream some brownies.

4.FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF- JUST 15 MINS

Feel sorry for yourself .For 15 minutes MAX

And then get your butt back into action

5.GET AWAY

Get away from the person causing you pain.Get away from the place making you angry .Just get away for awhile and clear your head.

These are a few things that really work well for me. I would love to hear what you guys do when life pulls you down .

DO YOU HAVE PRODUCTIVITY GUILT ? Reading time -4 minutes

Ever feel guilty of not having accomplished anything

Although it is only 6 pm

And you just finished 7 out of 10 things on your to do list

and you have a sprained wrist

and you just came home from running a marathon

If this kinda sounds like you ,then You have the case of Productivity guilt.

WHAT IS PRODUCTIVITY GUILT ?

You are the kind of person that wants to get a million things  accomplished in a day and will try to do so .But if you just sat down to relax for an hour ,you feel very guilty about doing so.So guilty that you start self hating.

The key word here is wasted

Any time spent not doing work that you have planned or in your terms work that is labelled as  ‘ PRODUCTIVE ‘is time wasted.Giving you the case of productivity guilt .Where  you become very self critical of yourself for not doing enough.

There is always a little voice in the back of your head that says you are not doing enough and you will end up regretting not utilizing this time.

You tend to forget all the other tasks or goals you have accomplished and focus on the ones left .

It does have an upside though.

Productivity guilt ridden people are almost like productivity machines.they work harder,do well in life and always have a clear list of goals.

As I am writing this blog I have a to do list that is  running in my head

Workout, read 10 pages of book, finish school project ,write blogs more often e ,mediate ,finish painting ,finish  psychology chapter ,print research papers, call grandma ,

And the list NEVER ends

WHY DOES IT HAPPEN ?

  • This is  usually brought upon due to the fear of failure or  because you are an over ambitious person.Or both
  • Or it is because you have been brainwashed by productivity gurus that say that you’re wasting the most productive time of your life by not waking up at  4 am
  • You have this constant need of people assuring you that you are doing more than enough
  • Or if your mom walks into the room and asks how you have so much free time left (although everything is done )

Because all four  ring true for me

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT

  •   Carry a little of your work with you. Start using half your free time to do your work and the other half to just have fun.
  • Do not WRITE your list of things to do for that day but menatlly remember it .out of sight out of mind.
  • Another trick that works well for me.Go find a friend or family member and recite all the lists of tasks you have done for the day in detail. You will then be self convinced that you have done enough.
  • Just remember that you are ALWAYS doing enough even when you don’t feel so.Every human being has a point where a burnout is reached. Just soak in the moment.

TAKE ON THE WORLD

PONDICHERRY -THE BEACH IS CALLING

The beach is calling.

Breathe in the fresh sea salt .Soak in the beautiful sights which makes you feel at peace.

Puducherry or Pondicherry. This place has many names.

Look around and you are struck with the picturesque image of France with its little cafes and beautiful streets. The heavy downpour seems to have given the place a fresh coat of paint. The clean and cool air replenishes your lungs, make you feel alive .

.First lets head out to the famous seaside promenade ,which translates to seaside walk. This is a beautiful 2 km walk alongside the Rock beach, also called the Pondicherry beach .

Cars are restricted in this area so grab your flip-flops and let your hair down because this is one path you will not regret taking.

Stop and feel the breeze fluttering through your hair.Engulf the spectacular  view.Enjoy the sea salt sticking to your face. You would feel at bliss, oblivious to everything else happening around  you.The feeling is exhilarating .

Sink our feet into the sand .Collect some beautiful seashells.Or just sit on the rocks and the waves dancing .Listen to the  sound of the waves crashing.

ROCK BEACH

A few things you are really going to appreciate is the cleanliness of the entire union territory and the culture of the people there. The people over here are super polite and are always ready to lend a hand in helping you learn about the culture and heritage of this esteemed place.

You might wanna grab a snack so head out the Aura Cafe .The cottage cheese croissants and the banana chocolate waffles will make your mouth water.Grab a scrumptious cookie or a gooey brownie on your way out.

You could have a chat with your co coffee drinkers and learn their story too.

Beside the Aura cafe we have the Aura shop. Step into a mystic portal where various concoctions  are brewing. The essential oils and incense sticks will ebb all the tension out of your body .

You might find it interesting to know that the Aura franchise is all a social initiative of the Aurobindo ashram . Aurobindo  was a spiritual leader who fought during India’s freedom struggle and set up an ashram

Let me now take you over to Nehru market. The place to be for shopaholics.Be sure to have cash in hand.Dresses, skirts, shorts, culottes, candles and lights deck the streets.

Travelling in Pondicherry is a walk in the park ,quite literally !.Everything in this place is not more than 20 mins far away from each other by walk. You could also grab an auto rickshaw or rent out a bike.

Its dinnertime. For dinner I would recommend a small quaint place called Les Sauvers.(The flavors)

LES SAVEURS

As soon as I enter  I am greeted with a typical  french cafe.Tables shaped like pizza pans and a small winery too.People of different countries and continents are dining under the same roof.

Bite into the scrumptious thin crust pizza and the delightful Bruschetta .Try the amazing   cheesy Ratatouille. .Do try conversing in French with the waiters,or should I say ‘Les serveurs’

To revisit the French era visit the Sacred heart of Basilica and the French war memorial

FRENCH WAR MEMORIAL

The French East India Company set up their headquarters  over here way back in 1674,dominating the entire union territory .Don’t miss out the Pondicherry museum to get  a glimpse of various war artifacts and memoirs.

And now we have reached the end of our  wonderful journey.Pick up chocolates at the famous Zuka  shop or head out to Baker street and try some delicious baguette or pastries.

Pondicherry is a place which will elevate your spirits  and make you appreciate the little things in life. It is a memory you can always count on to brighten up your day .
