Three lessons we learnt from Marie Kondo

The Kon Mari method of decluttering by Marie Kondo is considered to be an art form. From an international bestseller book to her very own Netflix series, she surely has a few lessons to share.

1.Embracing change

Change can be scary, something we all have learnt during the pandemic.
But change in a positive direction is good, when you clean everything up – and not just your physical surroundings but also the different parts of your life – you undergo a transformation.

Change can be scary. But change can also help you grow.

2.Leave behind what doesn’t bring you joy

Marie Kondo talks about the spark of joy and she says “The best way to choose what to keep and what to throw away is to take each item in one’s hand and ask: ” Does this spark joy?” If it does, keep it. If not, dispose of it.”

You can apply the same idea to everything in your daily routine right now. What habits that you currently engage in bring you joy? What don’t ? What can you do about it ?

3.Letting go = internal detox

Knick knacks, book, clothes and even glass figurines all hold some sentimental and emotional value. When you choose to let go – you undergo a detox. A detox of not just your surroundings but of body and mind too.
Soon this internal cleanse that you undergo will seep into other aspects of your life too, by making your enviroment less cluttered.

The Kon Mari method insists on decluttering and making change all at once – in one go. For good reason too– as it allows you to see an immediate transformation that helps you feel more empowered.

Make a change. Start small and see it make a difference.
